Passion For Art
I am a York based artist with roots in the Northeast of England who, following a career as a scientist, returned to the easel in 2010, experimenting and self-learning with oil painting media, followed by more formal teaching from a local artist. My passion for painting stretches back to my childhood, where I was taught by, and painted with my father.
Media
I work from my home studio, primarily with oil paints, enjoying the depth and tones of pigments, brush strokes and movement of paint on the canvas. I take much of my inspiration from the beauty of the natural world, believing mother nature to be the greatest artist and enjoy capturing the wonderful variety of colours presented to me by water, coastal structures, and vivid skies.
Activities
In 2024, I was part of York Open Studios which gave me the opportunity to welcome visitors and discuss my painting inspirations and techniques as well as selling a number of pieces. I have also been successful for a second year running to have a painting accepted for the Ferens Open Exhibition in Hull over the summer, and was also thrilled to have an exhibition of twelve original oil paintings at Blossom Street Gallery in York for 6 weeks over summer 2024. For 2025 I will again be part of York Open Studios in April (more details to follow) and hope to exhibit in a number of galleries.
